TALKING ABOUT KAT-TUN
During 2020, KAT-TUN had many solo activities. How did the members feel with the situation changing everyday?
We will look back at each one's year.
The whole world has changed a lot in 2020, How does it feel to be in the midst of this change?
N: I don't really remember how did I spend the beginning of this year.
N: I don't really remember how did I spend the beginning of this year.
K: That's because many things happened during this year.
U: Yeah, too many things happened, it's starting to feel like it was quite a while ago.
K: “Endless SHOCK"s performances have been cancelled on February, right?
U: From February 28th. Somehow it feels like it's been around 2 years already since that time.
K: I've been filming "Jiko Bukken Kowai Madori”'s movie till around the end of
February. Maybe it's because it hasn't even been half a year since its release, but it feels like it's this year. However, until March, I've been working quite normally, doing interviews and having meetings.
U: We still didn't know what was going on in the world, so we had this feeling of “What shall we do?" It ended up with us having to extend the period of the cancellation of the stage play,
so we have talked many times about whether or not we should perform the stage play again. We had a lot on our minds back then.
K: That was rather difficult, as the evaluation
criteria about work differ for each company. Now we have guidelines and stuff, however there wasn't any theatre union at that time.
N: Looking back at it now, we were able to cope with it adapting ourselves to it as -part of- Johnny's office, like with the “Happy LIVE with YOU” live with no audience.
K: I thought, with the stage I had to play at the Globe theatre "Well, let's just cancel it already."
U: Indeed, I have the feeling that the Globe was quite early deciding.
K: As for the Imperial theatre, it seems like it had to make sure that there wouldn't be anything like “Let's cancel that stage play, but let's play this one", so wasn't it difficult to decide?
N: It surely was like that.
K: It was difficult anywhere, though wasn't it difficult to deal with all the different subjects?
It's early summer and the world has started moving again, what are the three's memories of this
summer?
K: Many things suddenly stopped as soon as April arrive, isn't it so?
U: Like, maybe, with dramas. There were many rebroadcasts back then.
N: For “Shuuichi”, the number of people in the studio was reduced, the method for interviews became remote, the content on locations changed considerably. Though, it's still this way even now.
K: The period from April to near June, it was all about "What to do?". It was a time where everyone was trying to figure out how to do all each and every thing. Somehow, I feel like we were all tied by a spirit of cooperation,
although it was hard, I can grasp its positive
sides and think of it as a good experience.
N: At that time, I was starting meetings in remote for my one-man stage play "Nakamaru-kun no tanoshii jikan 4”. We just didn't know whether to start the performances or not.
K: Is that so...
N: Though, there also was a talk about: “In the worst scenario, we can broadcast it”, so | used it as a motivation.
U: The same goes for me: even though the stage play was cancelled, I had the chance to do many things I wouldn't have been able to do until now, so that helped me endure it. Speaking of which, what did you do this summer?
N: We couldn't really go outside, could we? / laugh/
U: It kinda felt like: "Is it hotter this year?"
K:I had the promotions for the movie, but || felt like: “-Is it- summer...?"
U: I remembered, it's “Tame Tabi”! The location where we were fishing to catch animals in that golf field, under the hot sun. I remember of it!
K: Ah, that! It was hot~
N: There aren't many memories, since we didn't have the chance to do any special summer-ish activity.
K: Somehow, I don't know what season is anymore /laugh/. I've been stuck in either the training room or theatre for two months and didn't really go out. Recently, I've started filming a drama, so I thought: "Wow, it's cold!", and I could finally feel what season we're in.
The memories left by the troubles and the events that make you feel lighter
N: We're performing on music show's
specials, so it's starting to feel like it's the end of the year.
U: We're grateful for this every year.
N: The performers keep the distance from the others, so it feels quite different from the usual.
K: You get nervous when you get to perform other groups' songs on projects for a music
show, isn't it so?
U: I don't~
N: I don't get nervous either. However, I think that there are various groups again, now.
K: There are really so many, now.
N: It's fun, though, that each Johnny's group has their own personality.
U: A lot of things happened, but it's not just us but also people from all walks of life are included, who have been wondering "What are we supposed to do from now on?”. I feel that it was a year where we've all been doing our best while banding together in order to
walk ahead and be able to see the light.
K: Yeah. It's also been a year where I had the chance to spend a lot of time working on different genres of movies or stage plays that I've never tried before.
N: Speaking of which, I've drawn 4-panel comics for “Johnny's Smile Up!Project”. I've heard that a friend's parents, who work at the hospital, printed the 4-panel comics and stuck them to their workplace.
U: That's great, isn't it?
N: Yeah, that was a really happy happening.
K: I really hope we will be able to have more of these dream talks even next year.
