Hey there!
Lately, I've been getting into SixTONES a lot and started stanning them, so I have been checking their latest magazines and this one caught my attention, so I thought to translate it for everyone else to enjoy reading too!
Hope you enjoy it!

SixTONES interview for Shuunkan Josei

Last year, during their second year since their debut, SixTONES releases their first album "1ST", followed by the single "Boku ga boku janai mitai da" and the song "Mascara" provided by Tsuneda Daiki (King Gnu / Millenium parade); all of which have reached the first position on Oricon charts. SixTONES have animated the music scene.

Jesse: It was a year full of enrichment, not only as a group, but also with individual works.
Juri: With drama or movies, and we have also been invited to many variety shows
Kochi: Also, with Corona, we also had the chance to experience a live broadcast without an audience. I was able to go back to my initial resolution and was reminded again of the value of having the audience on their seats.
Taiga: During our first year we were frantically running, but we got to cool off a little during our second year, last year. It was a year in which each and every of us had their own respective results in their works and during which we were able to work on building a depth as a group.

The other five also deeply nod to Kyomoto's words and have a talk about what they think they could bring back to the group through their personal activities.

In a short time, the third year since their debut!
On January 22nd the six will break into their third year since their debut. As a way to embellish this beginning, on January 5th the group will release their second album "CITY".

We asked about the feeling put into the title.

Hokuto: Originally, the six of us wanted to have a genreless music career. At first glance, things which might seem unrelated will be collected into one if you look at it through this filter called "SixTONES". This is why we spoke of it figuratively as "city".
Shintaro: Since we put songs of various genres into this album.
Jesse: We made this album so it could feel like -an invitation- to come visit SixTONES' "city".

The album's lead song "Rosy" will be the theme song of the Japanese dubbed version of the film "Spider Man: No way home", which will be in theatres starting from January 7th.
This rock number was written for the film and the choreography, linked to Spider Man's movements, also gathered attention.

Kochi: It's a very fast-paced song. This is because we knew beforehand that it would have been the theme song.
Shintaro: It looks like Kochi only knew it already
Jesse: Since we knew it at the same time everyone else knew it
Kochi: No, no, we already heard of that!!
Juri: Are Kochi's parents part of the staff...?
Kochi: They'll believe it!! This is how rumors start!!
Shintaro: Hahaha. I think it's got a fascinating feeling right from the intro.
Hokuto: It might not be that much so overseas, but it's a genre Japan is really proud of.

The reason why Jesse was fond of Hulk
The six of them were already familiar from the past with Marvel's works, such as "Spiderman" series, of course, or "The Avengers" or "Iron man".

Taiga: I've watched all the films!!
Juri: That's because Taiga is an otaku while the others are more like trend junkies. Like, "Avengers has become the topic", and for this we'd go and watch.
Kochi: I've learnt quite a few things from Taiga
Shintaro: When it comes to Marvel's works, it's like Taiga is the teacher and Kochi is the apprentice
Taiga: I gave a list of Marvel's productions in chronological order
Kochi: Everything was included as it should be!! You can also subscribe to the CS channel. Speaking of the characters, my favourite in particular is Doctor Strange
Jesse: I like Hulk. I want to become Hulk!!
Taiga: My favourite has always been Loki. Then, also Groot from "Guardians of Galaxy". There's a character called "Baby Groot", who became a baby in the remix production and I have its life-sized figure.

We asked who is the "Hero" among SixTONES
Kochi: It would be Jesse without any doubts because he's very tolerant and is always kind with everyone around him.
Hokuto: True, he's kind
Shintaro: Do you want to become Hulk because you're constantly told that you're kind and can't let out your stress?
Jesse: /laughs/

All the six of them laughed non-stop all the time. With the album leading, also the national arena tour "Feel da CITY" will begin. They are looking forward to this year to be another year of successes like the previous one. We asked them what the catchphrase for this year would be.

Kochi: "猛進 moushin (rushing madly ahead)!!" Let's go ahead with a smile, recklessly
Juri: Rather than a catchphrase, isn't this more like a 四字熟語 (yojijukugo = four-character idiomatic compound)? /laughs/
Kochi: It means we don't want this spirit to go off as it is. We want to keep reaching everyone and bring SixTONES through social media like Instagram, YouTube as if we were moving everyday. For this, moushin!!
Hokuto: Then, given the meaning of moving all the time, tuna, a migratory fish, would be good as well.
Jesse: Then, isn't TUNA good!!
Taiga: Nope, in that case then "recklessly" is okay /laughs/. Please, change the "進"(shin = advance, progress) in "moushin" with the "慎" (T/N: which, btw, means "humility" and "be prudent") in Shintaro.

Kochi×Shintaro

Just like in "Rosy" lyrics, predict each other’s tomorrow!!

Kochi: For Shintaro it'll be: "It would be good for you to add more vegetables to your meals". When tired, he tends to choose some things which could be a little heavy on the stomach, like meat, however at this time good things could happen if he eats more vegetables, something which Shintaro isn't really good at. Your lucky person will be "a woman with a pretty smile".
Shintaro: Kochi, beware of phone calls during work, especially from a certain person with MS as their initials.
Kochi: "MS"... that's definitely you, isn't it?!
Shintaro: Since tomorrow I'm off, I'll be showing him through a video call that I'm having a great time going alone to a bike shop, to which he refused to come to with me because, he said, "he'd like to come together with me, but he's got to work" /laughs/. The perfect woman for this kind of guy is somebody "resistant to dirt and smell." He is an active guy with interests like fishing, biking or camping. So, they will meet suddenly at a dentist's in town. The receptionist will call "Kochi-san, Kochi Yuuko (Yuugo)-san", and both will stand up at the same time and that's how the love story begins... /laughs/.
Kochi: That's a long story!! /laughs/

Something your partner could do which would make you happy

Shintaro: I'm saying this preparing myself to be criticised, but I want to be left alone /laughs/. I have a lot of hobbies and I like to go out for fun a lot, so, it doesn't matter how important that person might be for me, to be sharing that time would be a bit... It would be painful for me too if they'd tell me: "You promised me you would put me first"... I'd be happy if that person would understand that I'm an extreme person who's also close to his job.
Kochi: Rather than something which would make me happy if they did it, I want to do something together with my partner. Because I can generally do everything. Anything is okay, cleaning, doing the laundry, cooking, leather craft.
Shintaro: Kochi is good at survival.
Kochi: Although I'm not that good at calculating money. Even as a child, I wasn't good at holding accounts of my pocket money. Even now, where I should properly keep accounts of my life expenses, I tend to neglect it. It would be good if I could ask somebody to calculate my incomes and expenditures... I'd get them to do a bookkeeping qualification.
Shintaro: Isn't that just a job? /laughs/

Given the album's name "CITY", what is a  "CITY" you'd like to go to in the future?

Kochi: I keep saying this everytime, but I want to go to Ogasawara islands. When I saw images of swimming with whales and white dolphins, I started thinking I would like to live in a place rich in nature. I want to go somewhere where people are warm and where people in the city are all friends.
Shintaro: I'd like Dubai. It's an urban area with skyscrapers standing in a row, which has the world's tallest buildings and where there's the world's highest swimming pool; also, after a short drive, you can find yourself in the desert in a while. I am charmed by the feeling of being full of extremes, be it ultra-fine cities or extremely desert places. In that sense, I also like the area of Uguisudani station in the Yamanote line.
Kochi: Is there a desert in Uguisudani?!
Shintaro: There isn't a desert, but there's a spot which smells like Showa era /laughs/. The area around the Yamanote line terminal is "The city", but Uguisudani gives a different impression. I like that gap.

Tell us the difference between "love (愛 = ai)" and "like (恋 = koi)"

Shintaro: The differences between Japan and foreign countries (English-speaking countries)? The English equivalent of "Suki" and "Dai suki" is "I love you", while they don't say "I like you", and we don't know if we should say so, isn't it? /laughs/. Then, there's no scope for "like", but plenty for "love"!
Kochi: Why?
Shintaro: For a married couple, even if the partner is hurt, it's difficult to choose to break up, while for a lot of couples, they just end it saying "Let's break up". They might get back together, however they can't afford that since there's things to settle once in a relationship. In that way, a relationship based on "like" has more tension than a relationship with "love".
Kochi: This might be a different thing, but "love" might also have the image of the relationship between parent and child. Children receive a lot of "love" from adults, but they don't realise that; it's only when they reach the appropriate age where they can get married that they learn the weight of "love", with its meaning and responsibilities, I think...
On the contrary, "like" has a lighter and cute image. It's more like a fluff school romance where you date without thinking about the future.
Shintaro: I was thinking about the exact opposite /laughs/.

Jesse×Juri

What is a "CITY" you'd like to go to in the future?

Juri: Where Jesse's relatives are, I want to go in America, Las Vegas
Jesse: Also because if we go to my relatives' house, you won't have to pay for the hotel.
Juri: Thank you for having me /laughs/.
Jesse: I would like to go to New York. One of the most impressive places we have visited during our tour is Kagawa prefecture. I was surprised by the udon. Even without the sauce it was super delicious.
Juri:  It was. I last went to Okinawa when I was a Jr. That's a place where we don't always get the chance to go.
Jesse: Juri really likes Okinawa.
Juri: Yeah, even in private I really like to go there. Okinawa's cuisine is really good as well.
Jesse: Let's go to eat something in Okinawa someday.
Juri: Alright! When shall we?

Predict each other’s tomorrow!!

Jesse: Juri's lucky colour will be green!! If you wear green clothes, your luck will increase!!
Juri: Jesse's lucky colour will be red. You have a job where you have to talk tomorrow, right? I'm just telling you to pay attention and properly look at the red light turning on on the camera /laughs/.
Jesse: Ah~ I got it! Okay then /laughs/.
Juri: The type of girl that would look good for Jesse would be a cool girl with a model-like figure. But that seems like she'd talk a lot. That would be like the "Ah~ Isn't that Jesse~?" kind of person /laughs/. I feel like it would be better to have somebody with the same kind of sensibility rather than a different type.
Jesse: For Juri, somebody taller than him!!
Juri: Eh?!
Jesse: If I were to be asked whether it should be the girly type or a neat type, then I'd say a neat type, I guess.
Juri: That's the kind of image you have, huh?

Something your partner could do which would make you happy

Jesse: /immediate reply/ Cooking~!!
Juri: Realistically speaking, except making money, everything /laughs/.
Jesse: That's a big one.
Juri: I'm from the old school, maybe. Like the man who should wear the pants. Like: "Leave it to me making money outside!!", but "I'll leave you in charge of the house!!".
Jesse: If I have to cook, then I can do it and I'll do my best, but if I had to do it for myself only then I wouldn't. But, if it's your lover doing it for you it has a more special feeling, isn't it so?
Juri: That's true. But there's no dish which would make me say "Make this!!"
Jesse: Eh~ What would it be for me~ Omurice would be good, or also hamburger or karaage (Japanese fried chicken). In the end, I'd be happy with anything they'd make for me.

Tell us the difference between "love (愛 = ai)" and "like (恋 = koi)"

Juri: "Like" is a relationship which demands homogeneity, whereas "love" is a relationship which demands heterogeneity.
Jesse: What's that?!
Juri: Something like "I want to see you this much, but so do you, right?". Putting it in an easier way, it would also be like matching clothes. Whereas "like" is about having the same amount of passion, "love" is about accepting each other's differences. What do you think?
Jesse: Oh. Then, I'll make it even easier to understand: unrequited love is "like", "love" is about mutual love!
Juri: That's easy! /laughs/
Jesse: In "unrequited love", you love your partner so much you're like in a trance, but you can't say much since you're insecure. Basically, it's like you don't want the partner to know about your feelings. But, when you're in a relationship where you mutually love each other, then you can express your feelings as much as you like. For example, right now I want to go to an all-you-can-eat! /laughs/.

Taiga×Hokuto

Predict each other’s tomorrow!!

Hokuto: Kyomoto's tomorrow says to beware "ヒルナンデス" (Hirunandesu, a daytime news program). When you're at home and watch that program, time passes too fast /laughs/. And just like that the day is over. The other day at the radio, Kochi said "I'm the only one who hasn't guested in ヒルナンデス yet", however, I, too, haven't been there yet either. That guy forgot about me so fast /laughs/. As for the type of lover which would look good for Kyomoto, that would be somebody who has the same tolerance as a mother and who would forgive the ever growing collection of figures he has at home.
Taiga: I like tolerant people /laughs/. Tomorrow is Hokuto's day off, right? /Checks the weather report on the phone/ Tomorrow it's going to be sunny, and since it's been a while you had a day off, you will think "Should I go out~" and will go, but it will squall like crazy /laughs/.
Hokuto: Eh~ /smiles bitterly/
Taiga: For Hokuto, it could be he might date somebody younger than him and love him like a little sister, but it's also possible for him to be led by somebody older, instead, but I'd recommend somebody his age. The fact that they'd be the same age won't let them settle who has to take the lead through their age, so I predict the sort of romance where they grow up as both probe each other!!

Something your partner could do which would make you happy

Hokuto: Killing bugs /laughs/. I hate cockroaches in particular.
Taiga: Same! /laughs/ If there are small spiders I can still handle it, but it's really impossible with cockroaches!!
Hokuto: If one of them suddenly appeared in my room, I'd call -my partner- even if they aren't there and ask them to kill the bug. If also my partner were to be bad at handling bugs, then we'd have no other choice but to polish more strategies. Then, in the end, I have the feeling that we'd be blaming each other /laughs/.
Taiga: If also my partner couldn't handle them, I'd try my best to think of what to do in that case... I'm sorry to say that I might not be able to marry that person, though /laughs/. I mean, it would be hard for both to be living with that fear, right?

What is a "CITY" you'd like to go to in the future?

Hokuto: There's a place in Shizuoka, near Mount Fuji, called Tanuki lake. I once randomly checked a sort of book which introduced some famous places and that's where I saw it. It looks like a nice place, so I'd like to go there. I'm from Shizuoka but I've never been to Tanuki lake.
Taiga: I'd say Hokkaido. I've only been there for a school trip, but never had the chance to visit it in private. The reason is that, during the period when we had to stay home due to Corona, I was searching for good food and Hokkaido's rate was high. For this reason, it would be good to be able to visit various places in Hokkaido and taste some good food.
Hokuto: One of the most impressive places during our tour was Sendai. This could be an inside story, but I remember the people from Sendai's catering gave us some delicious drip coffee. It isn't pre-made, they grind it from powder when you order it and make it for you one cup at a time.
Taiga: For me it is when we went to Okinawa before our debut for the hall tour. I think we already exceeded our time, so I'll just say it /laughs/. In the evening, the six of us secretly snuck out of the hotel and went out eating. That was the last naughty thing we did before our debut.

Tell us the difference between "love (愛 = ai)" and "like (恋 = koi)"

Hokuto: I don't really know, but I think it is like "like" comes before "love". All I know is this order. "Love" is... what could it be? It's the little balances that are important. It's difficult~
Taiga: I don't know much either, but I'd say that "like" is pretension, while "love" feels like it's pride. They say "Love is blind", and when you are in love you enter in a mode where you can't see anyone else. I think that there is "love" after uniting (in marriage), but, when we become certain of each other’s feelings, we get used to them and tend to neglect things and get some leeway, in a bad way. Of course, I don't want to become arrogant.
Hokuto: Me neither.

What do you want 2022 to be like as a solo?

Kochi: I want it to be a year with a sense of speed, so when people think of it, they'll think "SixTONES have been flying since the first half of the year." We'd like to be busy all the time and it would be a great satisfaction to feel people be like: "Eh? This group is really made up of 6 people? Aren't there more?"
I'd like to be part of that. Personally, what I look forward to the most is the concerts. The motivation when you have fans in front of your eyes and when there aren't is totally different. Also because it makes us really happy to see everyone wearing the goods we have thought of and made.
Hokuto: When I was given the chance to be on set of a great production, I was so desperate thinking I should be having anything. I think I couldn't have exceeded the director's requests or what was in the script. I tried to calm myself down saying "I've done it all so far", and wanted to be able to grow my skills more. I always wondered what to do and that I had to give my best with those anxious feelings I had. I want people to think "That technique really got me!" or "That was amazing!" Next, I want to eat more healthy food!! /laughs/.
Taiga: This year, I will be starring in the stage play "Ryuusei no neiro" in August. Last year's musical "Newsies" had great feedback, and I think this was the beginning of more people to start thinking that musicals are interesting. So, for this reason, we want to make sure that the musical "Ryuusei no neiro" will continue being a great production that people will love.
Juri: Rather than things we want to do, I want to be giving preference to the things we have to do. For example, rather than having our own variety show, I'd prefer it to be a year where we can get to experience being guests on lots of tv shows. Also because, if it's with members I'm always used to being around, then I can talk but I'm really not good yet at doing so with somebody out of the members.
Jesse: I hope that this year will give me the chance to show everyone a different side of my appeals, this without shortening the amount of my work now. I want to grow more and more and I'm sure I can do that. Last year was very productive for us with all the group activities we had, so I want to make further progress as a solo too. I also want to go to varieties!! Like "Shabekuri 007"!! /laughs/.
Shintaro: Last year, I worked on the album, on a drama and a movie and worked till the end of the year, however if I were to be told "Have you shown your colours?", I'm still not sure about that. My goal for next year is to be able to properly show who is the person called "Morimoto Shintaro". On the private side, I'll become good at booking!! When I have to work on a day I was supposed to be diving, which is my hobby, I feel really down. I get down towards myself who is down /laughs/, hence, next year I want to be better at making plans.
